Sarvavid ("The All-knowing") is an epithet of Vairochana Buddha ("The Illuminator") who, as the central figure among the five Dhyani Buddhas, represents the principle of intelligent consciousness. Within the context of the four categories of tantras, this particular cycle belongs to the Yogatantra class and is uniquely characterized by its concern for the purification of all living beings and its elaboration of specific meditative methods which effect the liberation of being born or are dwelling in the unfortunate three lower realms of existence (hells, ghost-realms and the animal domain), as well as ultimately freeing one from the bondage of the Samsara. Consequently, it is especially valued by yogic adepts who wish to extend their saving efforts beyond the human sphere: therefore, the more advanced Tibetan lamas devote considerable time to its mastery and perform it on behalf of the dying and dead. This is a profound tantra that benefits both the living and deceased one. In this empowerment ceremony and teachings, a special ritual of purification of the consciousness of both living and deceased ones will be performed for all. You participation in this cycle of Vairochana teaching or your request to include prayer for the beloved ones for their wellbeing in their journeys of life and death will greatly enchanced the benefit of the individuals that you are dedicating for. Sarvavid is also resorted in order to rescue persons whose unwholesome conduct seems sure to drag them downward into perpetual wretchedness.

The empowerment ceremony features an elaborate sand mandala, colorful and notable for its profound and complex practices of meditation, mudras, and mantras. The mandala consists of Vairochana Buddha as the principal deity, surrounded by 36 other major deities within the inner circle, while countless deities inhabit the outer circle.

The Sarvavid Lineage: Lord Buddha entrusted the Sarvavid Tantra to Vajrapani Bodhisattva, who transmitted it to an illustrious line of Indian Buddhist sages. In time, Bari Lotsawa, the second patriarch of Sakya expounded it to the great Sachen Kunga Nyinpgo and thenceforth the masters of the Sakya tradition have uninterruptedly transmitted the practice from generation to generation. The present patriarch, His Holiness Sakya Trizin, received instructions in the Sarvavid cycle from several teachers: Shenphen Nyingpo of Ngor monastery, Lodo Tenzin Nyingpo and Chogye Tri Rinpoche. This cycle of major teaching of Vairochana is the first such in US by His Holiness. All are welcome to participate.

His Holiness performed the requisite meditative retreat of Sarvavid in Mussoorie, India.
